If you have a Gmail account, you are just like 999 999 999 others

It seems like (almost) everything Google does (or Alphabet, if you prefer) turns strikes gold.

We know that the company has had some failed projects, but we’ll let those slide. Its email, unsurprisingly, dominates the market.

If you are firing off an email today, there is at least a one in seven chance that it will be making its way to a ‘@gmail’ account, as the company announced yesterday that it over a billion active accounts.

Granted, some people have more than one Gmail account (I actually have three), but it’s still a good measure in determining just how popular Gmail actually is. The company announced in its earnings statement that there are one billion active Gmail users a month.

As gratitude, Google has released a funky little graphic in a tweet to say thank you for being part of the billion club.

According to The Verge, there was also a little bit of other information in the earnings sheet. Did you know that up to 10% of all Gmail emails are actually auto-replies? Well, according to them, it is.

The information sheet also didn’t say how many of the ‘active users’ are just used for sending out millions of spam email each month.
