Sony reveals local details for Xperia X and Xperia XA

Sony has revealed some details concerning the planned release of its new Xperia X and Xperia XA mobile phones in South Africa.

At an event in Johannesburg this morning, Sony announced that it plans to have the new handsets in available to purchase by May this year. At the time of this writing, there is no official announcement concerning pricing, but Sony says its in talks with local service providers to try and deliver the Xperia X and Xperia XA to the market priced at R499 and R399 respectively.

First unveiled at this year’s Mobile World Conference in Barcelona, the two new handsets sporting 5inch HD displays and running on Android 6.0 OS are what Sony has called ‘super mid-range’ and have been positioned as Sony’s new flagship phones.

Sony also announced that the Z5 model would be gradually phased out but that the Z5 Compact model would continue. Furthermore two more phones are reportedly in the pipeline for this year, but while Sony revealed they would be entry level devices, no further details about them are known at this stage.
