The ShowMax app comes to Apple TV, gets Chromecast support

Earlier this month, video on demand service ShowMax enabled AirPlay on its iOS app, allowing people to stream ShowMax content from their iPhones and iPads to their big screens via WiFi and the Apple TV streamer.

Now, ShowMax has announced that it’s made its app available on the Apple TV Store, for the latest iteration of Apple’s popular TV streaming device. That means AirPlay is no longer needed to run ShowMax through a 4th-gen Apple TV.

To get the app, simply open up the Store on your Apple TV and search for ShowMax, download and install it and once you’ve entered your username and password, you’ll be granted access to all of the service’s shows and movies. It’ll be streamable to your television directly from the Apple TV; no iPhone or WiFi required.

All previous versions of the Apple TV will still have to use AirPlay.

ShowMax has also enabled Chromecast support on its Android app, great for people who’ve been wanting to stream shows and movies to their Chromecast-equipped televisions.

If you’re interested in either of these but you’re not yet subscribed, you could always make use of ShowMax’s free 7-day trial to see if it’s a good fit for your viewing habits.
