If you use Facebook on BB10, you’ll have to go elsewhere for your fix

A couple of weeks ago, massively-popular messaging application WhatsApp revealed that it would cease to support users of BlackBerry’s BB10 operating system. It now seems that Facebook – the company that owns WhatsApp – has done the same for its main product.

The company is looking to pull all support for BlackBerry’s operating systems, which includes BB10, by the end of the year, and the social network’s users will have to resort to using the mobile site to gain access.

Understandably, BlackBerry isn’t very chuffed with Facebook’s move, but said that it is working on a solution for its users.

“We are extremely disappointed in their decision as we know so many users love these apps. We fought back to work with WhatsApp and Facebook to change their minds, but at this time, their decision stands. Despite this, we have worked hard to ensure our end users have the best experience in light of this decision, and are continuing to search for alternate solutions,” BlackBerry said in a press statement.

Along with all of BlackBerry’s operating systems, Facebook is also pulling support for Symbian S60, S40 and old versions of Android.

While it didn’t give a specific reason for BB10’s removal, it did state at the time of WhatsApp’s pulling that the operating system does nothing for the messaging app.

“While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future,” it said at the time.
