Check out the Game of Thrones intro in 360 degrees

The makers of Game of Thrones (don’t pretend you haven’t heard of it) have released a 360-degree version of the show’s intro sequence on its Facebook page. If you ever wanted to see the tiny castles and towers from the show’s opening credits up close and personal, now’s your chance.

The video takes the viewer all over the Seven Kingdoms and lets them see the beautifully-detailed mechanical representations of the well-known landmarks of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy world . The show’s title sequence was always a marvel of animation but this 360 degree representation makes it all look positively swoon-worthy.

But don’t take our word for it, check it out for yourself:

If you’ve been following tech over the past year, this won’t surprise you – 360-degree videos are exploding in popularity, and it makes good sense for one of the biggest shows around to take full advantage of this exciting development.

And these videos are definitely exciting, partly because they let you look at everything that’s going on as if you’re there by simply dragging your mouse around the scene as it plays, and partly because of virtual reality headsets, which are the obvious medium through which to watch these videos as they let you watch is if your eyes were the camera at the time the scene was filmed. Amazing stuff.

The evolution of media continues, and we can’t wait to see what comes next.

Incidentally, if you’re not up to speed yet with the Game Of Thrones hype train, HBO dropped a new trailer for Season 6 just the other day.
