Your next Lara Croft will be played by Alicia Vikander

You might not exactly know who she is, but actress Alicia Vikander will soon become a household name for gamers and Tomb Raider film fans.

Vikander, who acted in Ex Machina and The Man from U.N.C.L.E., has been announced to be the next person in line to portray tomb raiding heroine Lara Croft in the next instalment of the film franchise.

According to Hollywood Reporter, it will be directed by Roar Uthaug and “will tell the story of a young and untested Croft fighting to survive her first adventure.” It sounds like it will be a prequel of sorts, tracing back Croft’s roots.

She has rather big shoes to fill, as the most popular Croft role was portrayed by Angelina Jolie, who stared in 2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. If things go will for the next Tomb Raider film, Vikander is surely set to rise to prominence – just like what it did for Jolie.

Vikander’s most notable role is probably The Danish Girl, for which she won an Oscar for, and it instantly put her on everybody’s radar. This year, film buffs will get to see her in the drama The Light Between Oceans as well as the Matt Damon action film Jason Bourne.
