Eight youngsters jet off to US to represent SA at global science fair

Eight high school children have jetted off to the US to represent South Africa at the annual Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).

The delegation,who performed excellently at the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists, will be accompanied by the International Science Fair Director, Priscilla Moodley and Delegation Leader,Marguerite de Bruin.

Prof Ian Jandrell, Dean of Engineering and Built Environment at Wits University, will also be attending Intel ISEF as an international judge.

Below is  list of the learners names and the title of the projects:

“In previous years, our young scientists have returned with medal honours, which demonstrates how competitive our learners are internationally, and we are looking forward to this group making us proud by returning with more honours,” Parthy Chetty, Executive Director of the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists said in a statement.

“The company continues to work tirelessly to expand the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists to the broader industry to make it bigger and better so as to be able to send more learners to international science fairs,” Thava Govender, Eskom’s Group Executive: Transmission and Sustainability told the learners at their send-off at OR Tambo international airport.

“You are our ambassadors to the world so go and enjoy and take advantage of all the opportunities you will come across,” he said.

ISEF runs from 8th to 13th May in Phoenix, Arizona.
