Assassin’s Creed has a movie trailer, and it’s awesome

Next to any movie in the Marvel franchise, gamers and geeks are probably the most excited for the Assassin’s Creed film adaptation to hit the big screen.

Luckily for us, there is a brand new trailer freshly released on to the internet – and it has us more excited about the film than ever before.

According to IMDb, the film puts Michael Fassbender in the role of Callum Lynch, as he “explores the memories of his ancestor Aguilar and gains the skills of a Master Assassin, he discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society.” And yes, the Assassins will be taking on The Templars – just as in the games. But for the film, it will be taking place in 15th Century Spain.

It also stars Jeremy Irons, Marion Cotillard and is directed by Justin Kurzel.

In March we wrote that together with visual effects company Practical Magic, Assassin’s Creed video game creator Ubisoft will be working on a VR experience that is based on the upcoming film – which is scheduled to hit theatre by the end of the year.

Matthew Lewis, president of Practical Magic VR and director of VR experiences explained during AMD’s GDC press conference that the VR content was filmed alongside the theatrical release. Other than that, such as which platforms it will be available on (like Samsung’s Gear VR or HTC’s Vive) isn’t clear.

“We’re excited about the announcement of the Assassin’s Creed VR Experience and we look forward to working with New Regency, Fox and Practical Magic to share more in the future,” said Ubisoft spokesperson, Michael Beadle.
