FlySafair launches R2 ticket sale and of course, the site’s crashed

Low-cost South African airline, FlySafair has again introduced a dirt cheap sale on domestic tickets and sadly for many eager South African’s, its site has crashed. Just like last time.

FlySafair announced its #MakeR2Gr8Again R2 ticket sale this morning valid only for today.

“We are running a massive sale today and there are very high volumes of traffic on our site. As a result we have implemented a virtual waiting room. If you go to the site you will be given a number in the queue, and you’ll have to wait your turn to get onto the site,” Flysafair said on its blog.

According to updates about an hour ago, 7558 tickets had already been sold out of 15 000 available.

We wonder who these lucky folks are because the FlySafair site brings up a “Service Unavailable” message when we tried to access it.

“Selling the tickets through our website only is the most responsible way to do this to avoid dangerous crowds at our sales offices and because we need to keep our phone lines open for people who need help with existing bookings,” the airline said.

Naturally, people have taken to Twitter to express their frustrations over the site crashing.

You can only pay via credit card and Secure Instant Deposit payments as FlySafair has disabled other payment methods because the payments do not reflect immediately which compromises its systems given the volumes of sales expected.

R2 tickets are on selected flights only, on every route, while stocks last, and are available on flights between now and 30 September. Airport taxes are included in the R2 as is 7kg of carry-on luggage, but checked in bags and other extras are not included – you will need to pay for those services separately.

Good luck!
