Mmusi Maimane to lead DA protest outside SABC today

DA leader, Mmusi Maimane, will lead a protest outside the SABC headquarters in Auckland Park today.

Maimane, along with Gauteng leader, John Moodey and national spokespeople, Refiloe Ntsekhe and Phumzile van Damme, will hold a protest in Auckland Park at 12:30.

Phumzile van Damme said the protest is to show solidarity with news staff at the SABC and stand up against censorship and COO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

“Mr Motsoeneng has‚ throughout his tenure at the SABC‚ proven that he is not a fit and proper person to hold this position,” the DA said in a statement.

“He has demonstrated his unsuitability and the latest resignation of Acting Group CEO‚ Jimi Matthews‚ citing the ‘corrosive atmosphere’ is evidence that he needs to go at once.”

ANC speaks out against Matthews’ resignation

After acting CEO, Jimi Matthews, resigned yesterday and announced his resignation publicly on Twitter, the ANC responded by saying it expected Matthews to conduct himself in a better manner.

“He becomes part of a tool to be used to bash the SABC unfortunately. He leaves us with many questions now,” the party’s spokesperson, Zizi Kodwa said.
