Two South African games companies picked for Dutch collaboration at Open Design

South Africa’s RetroEpic Software has announced its inclusion in #cocreate2ACCELERATE challenge, which will see the company heading to Europe teamed up with a Dutch entrepreneur for a startups partnership programme.

#cocreate2ACCELERATE is an initiative from the Netherlands, which brings Dutch and South African counterparts together to co-create solutions to local business challenges while establishing fruitful partnerships to mutually benefit their professional endeavors.

The programme is running as part of Cape Town’s Open Design Festival next month.

RetroEpic was identified as one of five high-potential startups to be partnered with a Dutch entrepreneur.

“After submitting our challenge to the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands – a challenge to provide business insights and guidance while embracing our completely flat structure of management here at RetroEpic – we were thrilled to be accepted and paired with a Dutch digital nomad – Esther Jacobs,” RetroEpic said in a statement.

During her career, Jacobs has raised $25 million for charities without a budget, network or experience, got knighted by the Dutch Queen, Got ‘fired’ from her country for “traveling too much”, became a digital nomad, living and working in over 100 countries.

The very government that expelled her, is now consulting her on how to solve this issue for future mobile generations.

“We couldn’t be more excited to find out how she embraces the challenge we have set for her,” RetroEpic said.

Jacobs joins the startup on 10th August.

The four other companies taking part in the challenge include Sea Monster, whose work on Pick’n’Pay’s Augmented Reality promotion is currently driving parents mad, app developer Polymorph, &Innovation and agri-business tech experts, GreenFingers Mobile.

//Updated – The original version of this story said that the #cocreate2ACCELERATE challenge was taking place in the wonderful Netherlands. Sadly for the SA teams involved, it takes place at the merely awesome Open Design Festival in Cape Town.
