LG’s new ultra wide monitors are made for gamers and artists

There’s no shortage of new tech coming out of Berlin this week at IFA 2016 and LG has joined in by unveiling two brand new monitors.

Both of the monitors are curved and feature a 21:9 aspect ratio but under the hood they’re designed for very different tasks.

The Artist

The first monitor we’re taking a look at is the 38UC99. The monitor is comprised of a massive 38inch IPS panel with a native QHD+ (3840 x 1600) resolution.

The Korean manufacture claims the monitor has an sRGB coverage of 99% which should make it a great choice for content producers.

Besides that massive panel, the 38UC99 also has two 10W speakers which are, according to LG, able to output bass tones in the 85Hz range.

The monitor is also LG’s first to feature a USB Type C port. This is actually a clever addition because it means a user could hook up something like a tablet or a phone to the display.

The Gamer

For gamers LG has introduced its first 144Hz IPS display, the 34UC79G.

This display has gamer written all over it. Figuratively speaking of course, although its red paint job and sharp edges are par for the “gear for gamers” course these days.

Technically speaking the IPS panel has a native 3440 x 1440 resolution as well as a 1ms Motion Blur Reduction.

The display also boast some interesting tweaks such as Black Stabilizer. The manufacturer said of the tech, “Black Stabilizer provides extra clear contrast, allowing viewers to detect darker objects hidden in hard to see areas.”

Interestingly LG has included two types of synchronisation tech in the 34UC79G. The first is Dynamic Action Sync which is reportedly meant to minimise input lag caused by things such as V-Sync.

Gamers using a FreeSync enabled AMD GPU won’t have to worry about however, as the display supports AMD’s answer to smooth gameplay and zero image stuttering.

Externally the display includes a rather clever feature: a mouse cable hook. It’s small addition but one that makes sense especially for gamers that have to constantly adjust their mouse cable.

There’s no word yet on when South African’s will be able to treat their eyes to these displays but we’re almost certain that these monitors won’t come cheap so best start saving up if they sound tempting.
