Samsung asks Galaxy Note 7 owners to “power down and stop using the device”

Samsung has said that it is currently investigating reports that Galaxy Note 7 smartphones are still spontaneously catching fire and all users should stop using the phone.

In a statement sent out early this morning Samsung said, “Consumers with either an original Galaxy Note7 or replacement Galaxy Note7 device should power down and stop using the device and take advantage of the remedies available.”

We aren’t quite sure what the “remedies available” means as Samsung has asked carriers and retailers to halt both sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note 7 while the investigation takes place.

Despite an aggressive call-back of Note 7 handsets after it was discovered that battery issues caused some handsets to spontaneously combust, it appears as if the problem has persisted.

Last week there were several reports of replacement Note 7’s combusting. One incident saw a Note 7 starting to smoke on a South West Airlines flight.

With the local release of the Galaxy Note 7 a month away this is sure to cause yet another delay to the handset’s local release. Mind you, we would rather have a fully operational phone than one which is fraught with issues.

We have of course asked the local branch of Samsung how this will impact the local release and when we receive word from the firm we will update you.
