Titanfall 2 sees huge local price increase on PlayStation Store

Titanfall 2’s launch last Friday was marred for PlayStation 4 owners when they discovered that the price for the standard edition of the game had shot up from R829 to R1 149 on the local PlayStation Store.

That’s a R320 increase. A 38.60% increase.

The deluxe edition of the game saw a similar increase from R949 to R1 399 – a 47.42% increase.

The two most likely reasons for the price increase are the fact that the original R829  was simply the discounted pre-order price, publishers EA or PlayStation / Sony themselves had changed the price based on currency fluctuations.

The problem here is that, when we reported on the cost of Titanfall 2 prior to its launch, the R829 on the PlayStation store was not indicated as a pre-order price.

We have contacted the local arms of both EA and Sony and we’ll update this story when we have official word from them. Update below.

Thanks to Twitter user @dev_za for spotting the price increase, his tweet and accompanying screenshots are what pointed this out for us.

Meanwhile, the cost of the digital version of the game on Xbox One remains the same at R799. Strangely, the PC version is more expensive. EA’s Origin platform is selling it at R999.95 but you can buy it cheaper on some sites which don’t have South African pricing, such as Green Man Gaming.

//Update: EA has replied to us stating that “they are not commenting on pricing at this stage”.
