Vote for your favourite games in the most bizarre Steam Awards categories

The Steam Autumn sale is currently on the go (that crept up out of nowhere) and aside from buying games Valve wants the community to nominate games for The Steam Awards.

Before we dive into the categories it might interest you to know what is on sale.

Naturally there are hundreds of titles on sale so we recommend heading to the Steam website and trawling through the list to see what bargains you can find.

Now for the fun stuff, the awards.

“For the first time in human history, our Steam Community will decide the nominees for the prestigious Steam Awards. This November you will get to choose nominees for 8 different categories as well as have the opportunity to create your very own award category,” reads a notice on the Steam awards page.

The eight categories are:

  • The “Test of Time Award” – An award for the game that is just as good as the first day you played it
  • The “I’m Not Crying, There’s Something In My Eye” Award – An award for a game that blindsided you emotionally
  • The “Just 5 More Minutes” Award – An award for the game that keeps you up late at night
  • The “Whoooaaaaaaa, dude!” Award – An award for a game that “blows your mind”.
  • The “Villain Most In Need Of A Hug” Award – As Valve puts it, “some people just need a hug.”
  • The “Game Within A Game” Award – An award for the best mini-game in a game
  • The “I Thought This Game Was Cool Before It Won An Award” Award – An award that recognises the games that don’t have a huge marketing budget but are too great not to notice
  • The “Best Use Of A Farm Animal” Award – Seriously?
  • The “We Didn’t Think Of Everything” Award – The name of this award and who the nominees will be are coming soon.

You can vote for your favourite games and you can earn yourself a new badge for your profile in the process. All the details regarding voting are on the Steam Award Nomination page and voting closes on 29th November, the same day the Autumn Sale concludes.
