Platinum Games Official Statement on Scalebound’s Cancellation

Yesterday, Microsoft announced that they would be cancelling Scalebound after 4 years of development.

This came as a shock to Xbox One fans since it was a highly anticipated, exclusive, new IP from Japanese development studio Platinum Games. Xbox’s Phil Spencer came under fire on twitter for stating that the cancellation would be “better for xbox gamers” as disappointed fans voiced their concerns.

Today Platinum Games has issued an official statement regarding the game’s cancellation:

Regarding the Cancellation of Scalebound

2017.01.11

We’re sorry to say that on January 9, 2017, Microsoft Studios announced the cancellation of Scalebound. We are very disappointed things ended up this way, especially since we know many of our fans were looking forward to this game as much as we were.

Going forward, we will strive to continue delivering high-quality games to you, starting with NieR:Automata in March, and including products like GRANBLUE FANTASY Project Re:Link and LOST ORDER in the future.

We will keep working hard to meet your expectations and we look forward to your continued support!

President and CEO
Kenichi Sato

Scalebound promised to be an action packed title with the protagonist and his fearsome dragon facing off against larger beasts in frantic combat reminiscent of the Devil May Cry series.

All official Scalebound trailers and video content have since been removed from Xbox’s YouTube channel and it is uncertain whether or not the game may be revived at a later stage.
