Donald Trump has had to hand over his Android phone

Donald Trump is set to be sworn in as the 45th president of the United States Of America later today. Ahead of his inauguration, however, he’s had to surrender his Android phone.

According to a report on The Verge, The Don will be without his personal phone for security reasons. It’s not known at this stage what device he has been issued, but the New York Times states that his new handset is encrypted and approved by the secret service.

Apparently this is standard procedure for all incoming presidents; apparently Obama wanted to keep his BlackBerry upon becoming the leader of the free world, but he was eventually issued a device that had limited functionality that only a handful of people had the number for.

Furthermore, Donald Trump’s new phone may put a crimp in his style. According to the Times, he regularly uses it to take calls from the media, associates and politicians.

Also, from the looks of his Twitter account, Donald Trump seems to practically live on the micro-blogging site – posting all manner of insane missives – and the close access it gave a lot of followers is integral to his appeal.

While his tweets have been undeniably useful for swinging news cycle’s focus in his direction, though, they’ve apparently made him a nightmare for his handlers.

It’s not known at this stage whether his access to Twitter will be curbed somewhat, or even at this stage, which account he’ll be using once he’s sworn in; Trump has expressed a desire to keep tweeting from his own account rather than from @POTUS.

I guess we’ll find out if Trump is saddled with the official account of his new office if tweets slagging off Hollywood, denying climate change and building a gigantic wall between the USA and Mexico start popping up in the feed.
