The folks over at RobotGeek have reinvented Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots by replacing the plastic red and blue fighter with actual Arduino robots sporting the facsimiles of Donald Trump and the American Bald Eagle.

Not only is this an amazing idea that we’d buy as a game in a store, but it’s a DIY project that you can replicate thanks to a full guide over on hackster.io.

You’re going to need a lot of electronics as well as a 3D printer to give the fighters their identity. This version uses a lot of parts from RobotGeek themselves, including their Arduino-compatible board, six servo motors to make the robots move, a 7v5A PSU for power and a lot more. A fill list of parts as well as the 3D printable files are in the above guide.

If you follow the instructions, and have a “deep well of patience, and a willingness to break things and fix them again”, you’ll end up with something that looks like the project in this video.

As you can see these robots exchange speed and power for more manoeuvrability, at least compared to the original Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots. While we’d like the punches to be a bit more explosive, we understand the need to keep the expensive electronics safe. In exchange, those ducks and dodges are really cool to see.

Behind the scenes each player has a joystick to move and a pair of buttons to punch. The goal here seems to be hitting the small button in the middle of the robot’s chest, which will register a win.

Seeing this again makes us wish for robot fight clubs, something we were promised on a large scale two years ago when an American robotics company made a challenge to a similar Japanese firm.

The last we heard of the duel was in July of last year when the fight was confirmed to still be happening, but was simply delayed due to boring real world stuff like shipping and funding.
