Showmax is now making original content with a local flavour

Showmax has announced that is in the process of filming the first  ever Showmax Original series.

While the announcement reminds us of another streaming service that prefers creating its own content, Showmax is making content that it hopes will appeal to local audiences.

The first show it will produce is Tali’s Wedding Diary which will star Julia Anastasopoulos of SuzelleDIY fame.

“Building on the phenomenal success of her SuzelleDIY character, Anastasopoulos stars as Tali, a self-obsessed Sandton princess who’s moved to Cape Town and has hired a documentary crew to film the build-up to her wedding to property-agent fiancé Darren,” Showmax revealed in a statement.

The series will span eight episodes of 20 minutes each and will premiere on Showmax in December.

“Supporting African productions is absolutely part of our strategy,” Showmax Africa head Chris Savides said. “There’s incredible talent and expertise on this continent, so why look anywhere else, especially when you’re trying to tell authentic, locally relevant stories?”

Showmax is also currently working on iNumber Number with Mzansi Magic. The drama series will be based on the 2013 movie with the same name.

This is exactly the kind of support the film industry in this country needs. We’ve got world-class acting and production talent so it’s a huge boost to see a local company fund local productions.”
Naturally Anastasopoulos is very pleased with Showmax’s involvment.

“This is exactly the kind of support the film industry in this country needs. We’ve got world-class acting and production talent so it’s a huge boost to see a local company fund local productions,” said the actress.
