How to make an electromagnetic fidget spinner accelerator

We haven’t been covering the fidget spinner fad on htxt.africa, partly because it’s old news in the maker community as people have been 3D printing them for years, and partly because there isn’t much for us to add to the cacophony of voices.

But we had to make an exception for a silly project we found Instructables. User ‘Tanner Tech‘, not content with a slow fidget spinner that could only be accelerated with bulky air compressors and canned air, has built an electromagnetic accelerator.

The simple setup involves attaching magnets to the arms of the spinner, and then turning on an electromagnet near it. The electromagnet repels the regular magnets, and it spins faster and faster. How fast exactly, you ask? 1 440 revolutions per minute (RPM).

If you want to make your own electromagnetic fidget spinner accelerator, you can follow the step-by-step guide on Instructables.

There’s also the video embedded below which will tell you all about it from Tanner himself.
