Secret or open? Watch the #NoConfidence vote announcement live

By the end of today, South Africa will know whether or not the Vote of No Confidence motion brought forward by the DA will allow MPs to hold the ballot in secret or openly.

The motion will be held in National Assembly tomorrow, 8th August, and opposition parties have been pushing for the vote to be conducted via secret ballot to allow ANC MPs to vote “with their confidence” without fear of repercussions from their mother party.

The matter went as far as the Constitutional Court when the DA, UDM and EFF applied (and won) to push Speaker of Parliament, Baleka Mbete, to make a resolution on the secret ballot vote, as she is obliged to by her Parliamentary duties.

Mbete will finally make the much-anticipated announcement this afternoon at 3:30pm and you can watch it live online or on TV.

Parliament’s livestream services will broadcast the announcement on DStv channel 408 and on its YouTube channel.

The SABC and eNCA YouTube channels will also host their own livestreams.
