Blizzard changes the name of its desktop app, again

Late last year Blizzard decided that Battle.Net separated the brand too much and caused confusion, so it decided to change the name to “Blizzard App”.

The name change caused some confusion because, while Blizzard slowly started making the change, it still controlled the URL Battle.net. It also didn’t help that Blizzard staffers routinely used the old name.

Most recently Mike Morhaime dropped the old name during the announcement that Destiny 2 would be coming to Battle.net, so it wasn’t just fans that were confused.

Well, things are about to get a lot more confusing for folks who picked up the name Blizzard App, because its changing again.

“The Battle.net online gaming service was never going away but after giving the branding change further consideration and also hearing feedback, we’re in agreement that the name should stay as well,” Blizzard wrote in a blog post.

Blizzard App gets a new, er, its old name back.

The firm will now join the two names in a bid to unify the brands and retain the legacy of the 21 year old service.

While Blizzard Battle.net does sound better to the ear than Blizzard App does we’re sure folks are still going to refer to it as Battle.net.
