You can’t buy books on the new Exclusive Books app

Local book store chain Exclusive Books is the latest South African company to offer an exclusive app for their products, but it comes with the odd exception of not allowing you to actually buy books at all.

Added to the Google Play and App Store last week, you may have been alerted to the new software yesterday if you’re on Exclusive Books’ mailing list.

Several features are touted in the accompanying blog post, such as tracking their membership programme and a store locator attached to your device’s GPS.

Once you’ve downloaded the app and you hit the splash screen, however, you will find that some of the options simply open up your web browser to go from there.

The “Shop Now” and “Top 10” options, which make up half of the available options on the splash screen, are just hyperlinks.

The menu options for Kobo EBooks and Help follow suit.

While we can maybe see this as a companion app for the membership points and the sales, we cannot fathom why it was introduced without the option to shop exclusively through the app. Hopefully this gets added in the future, but we see no reason why anyone would need to download it right now.
