Dexter: New Blood is coming to Showmax, in 2022

Fans of Dexter can usually agree that the latter seasons of the show left much to be desired. Something they definitely agree on is that when the show concluded in 2013, it had one of the worst endings imaginable.

As you might be aware, Dexter is getting a new lease on life with a ninth season set to launch on 7th November in the US. Calling it a ninth season, however, seems wrong.

The show now carries the title Dexter: New Blood and shows everybody’s favourite blood splatter analyst working in a small town, fending off his dark passenger.

We’re excited, but this announcement comes with a looming question – will we be able to watch this new season of Dexter in South Africa?

As it turns out, there is good news on that front.

This morning we pinged Showmax asking if the show would be available on the streaming platform – as all eight seasons are currently on Showmax – and we got confirmation that it would.

Unfortunately, Showmax users will have to wait until January 2022 for the show to arrive. Should that timeline change we will update this story.

Before it comes to Showmax however, Dexter will be coming to DStv though we are still waiting on confirmation of an availability date and which channel the series will premiere on.

This show will not follow on from the disastrous final season but it will use the final scene – where we see Dexter as a lumberjack – as the jumping off point for this season, although 10 years have passed since that moment.

In the trailer we hear that Dexter is concerned about his past catching up to him and we have to wonder if we’ll see characters from the older shows here, especially Dexter’s son Harrison who would be a teenager in the show’s timeline.

Should we receive more info about Dexter: New Blood and where you can stream it, we’ll be sure to let you know.
