Game Of Thrones will shoot multiple endings to mess with pirates

HBO is apparently taking some new steps in its fight against pirates and other ne’er-do-wells who would both steal and upload unreleased Game Of Thrones episodes.

According to a report on The Morning Call the network is planning to shoot multiple endings to the season finale of the forthcoming Game Of Thrones Season 8, to flummox torrent sites.

“I know in ‘Game of Thrones,’ the ending, they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that nobody really know what happens,” The Morning Call quoted HBO’s Casey Bloys saying.

“You have to do that on a long show. Because when you’re shooting something, people know. So they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that there’s no real definitive answer until the end.”

This way, there’ll be no way to know whether the ending one is watching on a leaked version of the season finale contains the canon ending. Hell, apparently even the actors involved in the show won’t know which ending is the real one.

While this all sounds like an interesting strategy, it has a couple of holes in it. First off, it doesn’t guarantee that HBO has shored up the holes in its network that allowed hackers to help themselves to around 1.5TB of data earlier this year.

Second, the breach back in August also included the screenplays for (at the time) unreleased episodes from the seventh season of Game Of Thrones. So, is HBO planning to release multiple finale screenplays to muddy the waters too?

The eight season goes into production this October and will likely hit screens early in 2019.
