Star Wars The Last Jedi trailer drops

This morning advanced tickets for Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi go on sale and on cue, Lucasfilm has dropped a trailer for it.

Not a teaser. Not some stills. Not the paltry amount of information eager fans have had to cling on to until now. No, a full fat trailer. The studio clearly wants you all to open your wallets today.

Enough preamble. Let’s have a look shall we?

Okay. Wow.

There’s quite a bit to unpack there, but for us, the moneyshot is the first real look at Snoke. He (she, it?) was a massive hologram in the last movie so it’s quite a shock to see that menace made flesh. There’s also a pretty intriguing dynamic going between Kylo, Rey and Skywalker; the latter, it seems, only sees the potential for disaster in training Rey while Kylo looks willing to lead her down that road willingly.

The new film is written and directed by Rian Johnson, who wrote and directed the fantastic high school noir Brick and the mind-bending sci-fi time-travel thriller Looper, so the quality of his latest film shouldn’t shock anyone. The film stars Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Laura Dern, Benicio del Toro, Gwendoline Christie, and the late Carrie Fisher. We miss you, Carrie.

Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi opens globally on 14th December (and will probably smash the Christmas box office). We’ll have a review in the event we get invited to a pre-screening. In the meantime you can now get excited. The hype is real.
