3D Print your own Star Trek Medical Tricorder, but don’t expect it to work

Star Trek: Discovery may be the newest series on the block, but fans of the franchise are still recreating props from previous shows.

Thingiverse user “neworbit” has made this Mark VII Medical Tricorder as seen in The Next Generation. After around 9 hours of printing in Hatchbox silver filament, the button and screen details were added.

These weren’t painted on, but were instead attached with double-sided tape after being printed (with a standard paper printer).

This is a deceptively small print divided into the base (12 X 7.5 X 3 centimetres) and the bottom section (1.75 X 6.5 X 7.5 centimetres). The two are joined by a hinge which requires a piece of metal wire work properly.

What  you see in the gallery below is still a work in progress with a few details still needing some paint. Even as it is now, it’s a fantastic prop and it looks great compared to the Playmates toy.

To make your own you can find the files over on Thingiverse.
