8 ways to keep the kids entertained this weekend with Showmax

How do you keep your kids happy, engaged and entertained over the weekends (it can be quite the chore, we know)?

As we wind down to the end of the year, you’re probably already asking yourself what you’re going to do with them while they’re on their looooong December holiday?

The simple answer is Showmax and its vast library of children’s programming that spans multiple genres and ages so the kids are never bored. Here are eight of the best!

LEGO Ninjago

The LEGO Ninjago Movie is now out, but before it came out, the ninjas were on TV, and you can watch them on Showmax. The LEGO Ninjago Collection boxset includes all six seasons of Masters of Spinjitzu starting from 2011 as well as all 20 Wu’s Teas shorts that came out this year, plus two LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu movies! The only worry here is that you may soon be buying LEGO sets to fill the house.

Disney’s Sofia the First, Season Three

Sofia is getting used to being a princess, and helps newcomers to Royal Prep make friends and have fun. But some are very jealous of Sofia’s kindness… Another Disney title for Sofia fans is Doc McStuffins, Season Three – the Doc will be in from Thursday, 26th October!

Star Wars Rebels, Seasons One-Two

The empire is rising and the intergalactic rebels must fight for their freedom. This epic animated series takes you right to the fight against evil consuming the galaxy. If your kids are really into this kind of animated sci-fi, they’ll also love Disney Lab Rats: Elite Forces, due to land on Showmax on Monday, 23rd October.

Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man, Seasons One-Two

Using his amazing powers, Spider-Man fights supervillains. But he also still has to go to school and hang with friends, which is hard when you’re trying to save the world. There’s also Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man Web Warriors and Ultimate Spider-Man vs The Sinister 6 coming to Showmax on the same date to give your little spideys their fix.

Release date: Thursday, 26th October

Disney’s Captain Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Season Four

Jake is the captain now, but the adventures don’t stop. With ghosts, pharaohs and robot sharks attacking the Mighty Colossus, he and his crew have a lot to do. You know who reminds us of Jake? Ryder, from Paw Patrol, the brains behind a team of pint-sized puppy heroes who always save the day in Adventure Bay. Paw Patrol, Season One, is also on Showmax.

Release date: Monday, 23rd October

Disney’s Liv and Maddie

Liv and Maddie are identical twins, yet they couldn’t be more different! But when they have to share the same room, they find out they’re stronger together… Another live-action show that tweens go gaga for is Disney’s Girl Meets World, which is available on Showmax.

Release date: Thursday, 19th October

Disney’s My Friends Tigger & Pooh

And one for the littler little ones, this spin-off of the classic Winnie the Pooh series is about six-year-old Darby and her puppy Buster, who go off on all-new adventures, along with Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and the other beloved characters, solving mysteries as the Super Sleuths.

Release date: Monday, 30th October

Stick Man

Finally, let’s end with a Christmas short that was actually animated right here in South Africa. Based on the book by Julia Donaldson, this short even won the Le Cristal Award from the Annecy festival for animated film. If you want to be enchanted and get into the Christmas spirit, while feeling a bit of national pride, this is what you should be watching.

All of this comes at no additional cost to DStv Premium subscribers. Go to www.showmax.com/dstv to get your Showmax subscription now. Your kids will love you!
