DotAfrica team heading to Kilimanjaro on roadshow

Africans have been able to purchase dotAfrica domains since 4th July and now the team responsible for bringing the geographic top-level domain are embarking on a roadshow.

The main goal of the roadshow is to celebrate the rollout of dotAfrica as an example of Africans banding together says Registry Africa chief executive officer Lucky Masilela.

“Just as the eventual commercial launch of .africa was an example of Africans overcoming enormous odds in the quest to better their lives through a unique online identity, so too will the pan-African trek by the .africa team. This roadshow will again illustrate that nothing stands in the way of a united Africa,” said Masilela.

The roadshow will involve the dotAfrica team returning the dotAfrica flag to its home at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The roadshow will conclude in a hike to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro where a dotAfrica flag will be planted on the mountain’s summit.

At least that is the plan Kilimanjaro is not what one would call the easiest mountain to summit. That having been said we’re quite excited to see this roadshow taking place. Perhaps it will get more folks using that sexy .africa URL (we’re working on getting ours by the way).

“The .africa roadshow is more than a marketing exercise. It signifies an end to the unwarranted delay in the delegation of .africa and the denial of the African people the right to their own digital identifier. Africa has finally prevailed and we plan to communicate this during this unparalleled continental roadshow,” concluded Masilela.
