Apple’s iPhone X is reportedly freezing up in colder environments

The iPhone X has been out in parts of the world for a few weeks and there appears to be a rather strange bug affecting the handset.

A number of users have taken to Reddit to complain about the iPhone X freezing up in colder temperatures. One users recounts how the handset becomes unresponsive and stops recognising inputs a few seconds after they stepped outside.

The problem seems to be widespread but there is seemingly a work around for users. “Been experiencing this, myself. Funny thing: it appears to be a software problem. Locking and then unlocking the screen fixes the issue,” said on Reddit user. That advice seems to work with many thanking the Redditor for their help.

Apple has acknowledged that this is happening and told The Loop that it was working on a fix.

“We are aware of instances where the iPhone X screen will become temporarily unresponsive to touch after a rapid change to a cold environment. After several seconds the screen will become fully responsive again. This will be addressed in an upcoming software update,” the Cupertino firm said.

So it isn’t a hardware problem at least it doesn’t look that way from this side of the room. Indeed Apple’s own documentation says that in colder temperatures the handset would see a shortened battery life and that devices would shut down.

Hey, at least the iPhone X isn’t blowing up. A few moments of unresponsiveness trumps constant fear your handset will blow up.
