E3 Game Blowout – Part 3

Many jaws hit the floor in amazement at this year’s E3, thanks to huge amount of gorgeous games that have been on display. Here are another 10 preview videos to enjoy.

Ubisoft showed off footage from Rayman Legends, and series fans were pleased with what they saw. Expect side-scrolling action, challenging levels and hilarious co-op gameplay, all wrapped in stunning new graphics and incredibly responsive controls. It releases for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PS Vita in Q3 2013.

There is no such thing as too much Mario Kart, even if the game itself doesn’t change a whole lot over the years. Nintendo showed off game #8, a Wii U exclusive, to rapt E3 audiences, and it’s looking as polished as ever, with tons of tracks, crazy racing action and many of Nintendo’s most iconic characters making an appearance.

Beyond: 2 Souls is the next game from the minds at Quantic Dream, a studio that likes to push the boundaries of digital entertainment with compelling, emotionally-drive narratives. They’ve succeeded to a degree with their previous games, Heavy Rain and Fahrenheit, but Beyond: 2 Souls looks to be the best yet with a better balance of psychologically-thrilling storytelling and in-your-face action.

What started out as a zombie apocalypse survival mod for Arma 2 has been converted into a standalone game that’s due for release late this year. Join one of the developers as he takes you through the latest build of DayZ, showcasing a new inventory management system and some other new features coming to the full game.

Tekken Revolution is Namco Bandai’s first-ever Free To Play fighting game. It released on the 11th of June for the PS3, with 8 playable characters with many more to be added in future updates. Players are allotted virtual coins that can be used to play, which are replenished for free over time. Premium coins can be purchased of course, to allow players to play whenever they like and to unlock additional (but not essential) content.

Embrace the shadows again in the latest Splinter Cell game, this time set in an open world that has multiple solutions to its many challenges. Sam Fisher returns, this time as the leader of the newly-established Fourth Echelon, following on from the events of Splinter Cell: Conviction. Let’s hope this new game is a little harder…

The gist of this new game from Suda51, Killer Is Dead, is that you’re an executioner from the near-future, working for a firm specialising in executions. Your job is to take out the targets you’re given, using swords, guns, cybernetic enhancements and whatever else you can get your hands on.

Halo – Spartan Assault is a top-down shooter set in the Halo universe that is being exclusively developed for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. It makes good use of touch capabilities, and looks like it should deliver a pretty decent new experience for Halo fans looking for something a little different while they wait for Halo 5.

I have no idea why it has taken so long for anyone to do a Mad Max game since it’s the perfect setting for a game featuring cars, guns, violence and grit, but the wait is finally over now that Warner Brothers’ games division has stepped up. Roll on, 2014!

I shouldn’t have to warn you that this trailer for South Park: The Stick of Truth is hilarious, but for reasons more relating to toilet humour than actual wit. Still, that’s South Park, and who doesn’t love South Park?
