Sony releases PS3 firmware update and DIY fix for bricked consoles

Last week Sony’s PS3 update version 4.45 went live, and started bricking consoles for many users. It reacted swiftly, pulling the update, and promised that it’s working on a fix.

Today the new firmware lands. PS3 update v4.46 will add the functionality promised by 4.45, this time without making your console unusable. Fortunately, for those who had their machines affected, Sony’s also made sure that the new firmware will make their machines work as promised. However this won’t happen automatically: the DIY fix requires users to boot into safe mode and restore to the new firmware manually.

If your console was affected full instructions for the fix are at the link below.
