Get an atomic education with Google Cultural Institute

It’s been 68 years since the first nuclear weapons were used on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, ending the second world war. To help us remember why that shouldn’t happen again, Google’s worked with the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum to bring their exhibits to the internet.

Users visiting Google’s (incredibly informative) Cultural Institute website will now be able to see the most important bits of modern war’s history. The Hiroshima and Nagasaki exhibits, in this online museum, have some fascinating pictures and accounts of those days in August 1945. There’s a photo of a pocket watch that stopped at the exact moment of the first detonation. A gallery of images that shows the images of Hiroshima before the blasts. Videos of the Urukami Cathedral in Nagasaki, a Catholic church that rebuilt after the war. And a few other touching pieces.

Well worth a bit of your time, we think.
