Gauteng town councils struggle with data security

Both the City of Joburg and Ekhuruleni councils had their online bill-payment systems draw some unwanted attention, this past week. A security flaw made it possible for anybody to view an online invoice, placing personal details of accountholders in the public domain – something the upcoming POPI bill will attempt to clamp down on.

Afrihost launches mobile data

One of the country’s biggest fixed-lined ISPs, Afrihost, this week launched its mobile data offerings. Its promo offer, a free Mi-Fi device and 5GB of data for R145, crashed the Afrihost website. In total, it sold 7 000 bundles – and we had our hands on one.

PlayStation 4 headed to SA this December

At its press conference in Germany, at the Gamescom expo, Sony announced the launch date for its next-generation console. America gets it on the 15th of November, Europe on the 29th – and South Africa a mere week later on the 6th of December. Lucky for Sony, as Microsoft won’t bring the Xbox One to local shores until 2014.
