The incredible self assembling spanner and other 3D printed things

Wandering around the Innovation Summit at IDC’s offices in Sandton yesterday, we happened upon a the Technology Innovation Agency. They’re a government funded agency who operate out of Bloemfontein, and have an enormous number of design and prototyping resources for small businesses to draw on. Most interesting, of course, is their fantastic collection of 3D printers, which can sinter titanium powder for metal parts and can combine plastic components and rubber materials in one design – so you can create complex objects with moving parts that require no assembly. They just come out of the printer working.

Here’s a few examples of their work.
