Johns Hopkins’ crytography expert asked to take down NSA-related blog

A must-read from Ars Technica today, about the Baltimore-based academic who wrote about the NSA’s newly-discovered abilities to break online cryptography on his official blog. Shortly after publishing it, the university asked him to take it and any sites which mirrored the content down or seek legal counsel.

Heavy stuff – and when called out on it, Johns Hopkins says it was all down to incorrect usage of the NSA logo.

From the story:

Was basic academic freedom on the line? Had the request even come initially from Johns Hopkins or from outside the school—perhaps someone at the NSA headquarters just up the road from Baltimore?

Find out over here.
