Is BBM for Android coming on Friday? Only to Samsung? [UPDATE]

We know that BBM is coming to both Android and iOS in the next few months because BlackBerry told us at BlackBerry Live earlier in the year, what we don’t know is exactly when the app will leave Beta and hit the Google Play store. Samsung Nigeria’s Twitter account let slip yesterday that they had not only received a 3 month exclusivity with BlackBerry for the application (which they’ve been advertising heavily on radio in South Africa over the last few weeks) but also that the app would be launching on Friday.

Both Samsung and BlackBerry (local offices as well as international) have refused to give comment on whether we would be seeing the famous messaging app from Friday or even on whether Samsung had secured any sort of exclusivity but as they say, where there is smoke, there is BBM exclusively for Samsung from Friday but there has been an announcement as to the exclusivity rumour. Crackberry.com reached out to BlackBerry for comments and here’s what they had to say.

“The excitement around the upcoming BBM launch on iPhone and Android devices seems to know no bounds. Although I’m a big fan of this passion, I want to clarify that no one will have an exclusive on offering BBM. We’ll be bringing the app to Android and iPhone users across the globe soon.” – BBM Communications Director at BlackBerry, Victoria Berry.

Once BBM for Android is out, surely the iOS version can’t be too far from release either. Especially after the social media and public relations manager for BlackBerry Alex Kinsella tweeted this gem 11 days ago already.

Are you excited for BBM coming to another platform? Are you going to download it? Let me know in the comments.
