Real conversation is in the hands of the beer holder

Do you miss the halcyon days of alcohol-fuelled social interactions when there weren’t any cell phones in sight? When friends didn’t gather around a table at a pub or restaurant and sit on their (*&#$@!% phones instead of, oh, I don’t know, TALKING TO EACH OTHER?

Well, if so you’re not alone. PSFK.com’s Leah Gonzalez writes that the people behind Brazilian beer brand Polar have designed a new beer-holder called the “Cell Phone Nullifier”. It actively blocks all cell signals – including 3G and 4G – within a 1.5m radius that facilitates actual social interactions between friends and strangers alike. Polar’s revolutionary idea is to inspire people to communicate in ways that do not make use of Twitter, Facebook or Instagram while they’re out and about, and I think it’s fan-freaking-tastic.

Intrigued? Watch Polar’s ad, linked below, it illustrates the concept brilliantly. It’s in Portuguese, though, but the meaning comes through loud and clear nonetheless.

Viva a revolução!
