Goodbye 16:9, hello 21:9

Philips has developed a 29-inch Ultra Widescreen display that has just gone on sale in South Africa. It’s called the Philips LCD Monitor 298P4QJEB with MultiView and it’s a professional monitor intended for design work. With its 21:9 aspect ratio and resolution of 2560 x 1080, it’s an absolute monster that can handle any high-detail design job you care to throw at it, and with dual inputs, it can even show you content from two separate sources at the same time. It’s a multi-tasker’s dream come true!

Other details include a refresh rate of 7ms (grey to grey), DVI, DisplayPort and HDMI inputs, four USB 3.0 ports and a brightness of 300 cd/m². The monitor enjoys good viewing angles, too, thanks to its state-of-the-art AH-IPS panel: it’s rated at 178°/178° so it should be visible from just about every practical viewpoint. That panel is also the reason its colour reproduction is apparently also good enough for professional use, when a true-to-life colour palette is an absolute requirement.

We’re just busy confirming its price and where you can buy one, and we’ll update the story with those details when we get them.
