“Pay once. Enjoy Forever” – Free to air OpenView HD launches

Free to air satellite TV operator OpenView HD had its launch event in Johannesburg tonight, paving the way for the start of service on the 15th of October. The recommended retail price of R1 599 gets you a satellite dish, decoder and installation voucher, although there will be some installers who will offer the packages slightly cheaper.

MD of Platco (the company behind OpenView HD) Maxwell Nonge made his mission clear, stating that OpenView HD will be bringing the first free terrestrial satellite service in Africa to the poorest citizens of the country to bridge the digital divide.

Consumer retail stores OK, Pick n Pay, Hirschs and Extreme Discounters already have the hardware on sale; mass retailers Game, Dion Wired, House and Home and HiFi Corp will have units available from tomorrow (11 October 2013).

The OpenView website lists the channels in 4 different bouquets with 16 channels in total:

– Entertainment: SABC1, 2 and 3, e.tv, eKasi+, eAfrica+, eMovies+, Glow TV

– Culture and lifestyle: ASTV, Deen TV

– Children and education: eToons+, Mindset TV, Da Vinci Learning, English Club

– Religion: Spirit World Channel, Inspiration TV.
