[vc_column_text width=”1/1″ el_position=”first last”]

Now that South Africans have been granted access to games on the iTunes Store (even though the process is a bit convoluted at the moment), you might be wondering what to download first. So we put together a list of seven games that you simply must play on your iOS device. Enjoy!

Plants vs Zombies 2Plants vs. Zombies 2

Free
The zombies are back, and you must protect your brain from being chomped by amassing your own army of super-charged plants that keep the undead at bay! This remarkable sequel has new plants, new powerups, new plant food and new zombies that will tax your brain and delight your eyes as you fend off wave after wave of brain-hungry ghouls.

Zombie GunshipZombie Gunship

R7.99
If you’ve watched online videos of American gunships firing at the enemy from miles away, and seen the black-and-white footage of the results, then you know exactly how Zombie Gunship works. The concept is very simple: Gun down as many zombies as you can in the time you’ve given using various ridiculously overpowered long-range weaponry. As one-dimensional as that sounds, it’s remarkably satisfying, and well worth the eight bucks.

Robot Unicorn Attack 2Robot Unicorn Attack 2

Free
The folks over at Adult Swim sure know how to make silly, yet strangely addictive games. Robot Unicorn Attack 2 sees gamers controlling a sprinting unicorn that jumps when the screen is touched, and gamers must time their presses to ensure the unicorn makes all of the jumps that come its way. You can spend real money on in-game currency that can be used to buy upgrades for your unicorn, as well as songs to play to for a dollar each.

Infinity Blade 3Infinity Blade III

R56.99
The third game in the Infinity Blade series is the best-looking yet, with gorgeous graphics, a huge world to explore that changes as the game progresses, two characters to play as and more of the incredibly fluid melee-and-magic combat that made the first two games so popular. It has responsive and intuitive touch controls that will have you ducking, striking, dodging and casting devastating combat spells like a pro in no time. If you only play one of these iOS games, make it this one – it’s really that good.

Call of Duty Strike TeamCall of Duty Strike Team

R56.99
Activision developed this Call of Duty just for mobile devices, and it’s a beauty. It’s a first-person and third-person shooter designed from the ground up for mobile gadgets, with graphics almost as good as that of its PC and console relatives. You’ll get to play through a gripping single-player campaign and fend off hordes of increasingly-difficult enemies in the game’s Survival mode, switching seamlessly between third- and first-person perspectives. Just be aware, though, that the original iPad and all iPhones prior to the iPhone 4S and all iPods prior to the iPod 5 won’t be able to play the game.

Worms 3Worms 3

R9.99
Since the mid-1990s, the Worms franchise has been amusing strategically-minded gamers the world over with its over-the-top worm-on-worm action, and this third iteration for Apple devices is one of the best yet. A new strategic layer has been added with cards that can be played at the start and end of every round that affect your opposition in fun (and often hilarious) ways, in addition to the already-funny cache of weapons at your disposal with which to smite the worms on the opposing team. It’s even possible to play with friends online through the game’s asynchronous multiplayer mode. If you’re after family-friendly, always-funny fun, Worms 3 is ten bucks incredibly well-spent.

Swords & SworcerySuperbrothers: Sword & Sworcery

R39.99
Indie adventure games don’t come any more charming than this. The art is done in an 8-bit style that has the game looking like it was designed in the 1990s, but with subtle, modern touches that give it so much more detail than the format implies is possible. The story is one of gentle mystery, and solving its various puzzles often involves rhythmic tapping, or clever inspection of bits of the screen that seem to invite investigation. It’s witty, clever and very self-aware, and as a result it’s as charming an adventure game as you could hope to play.
