GoPro video shows local runner getting charged by Wildebeest

The use of GoPro and GoPro-style action cameras is seeing increased use in sports and recreational activities. Most of the footage is great for archiving and assessing performances – such as racecar drivers using video to see where they can improve on their driving lines – but occasionally a gem pops up.

That unexpected moment captured on film – just the kind of thing that will make for a great YouTube video, and instant internet fame.

One of those moments came to runner James Duncan, this past weekend. He was running in the Impi Elite Challenge, in Cape Town, using his GoPro to record the action. What would’ve been an ordinary 12km run through the bush became a bit hairier, when a few spooked wildebeest charged at him from behind some trees. Thankfully, he avoided any harm by expertly dodging the animals. Or was it just luck?
