Nokia announces the Lumia 1520 phablet

Nokia has a new flagship device called the Lumia 1520 and it’s a 6 inch 1080p phablet running the latest update of the Windows Phone 8 platform. The extra screen real estate means that for the first time on a Windows Phone device the screen is now six tiles across (previous devices could only manage four) which should give large screen users more customisation options.

The Lumia 1520 runs on Qualcomm’s fantastic Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM and a 3400mAh battery with Qi wireless charging built in. Onboard storage is 32GB with the ability to expand it by a further 64GB using microSD card which will help store the pictures that the 20MP Pureview camera can take. There are four microphones in the Lumia 1520 to aid with noise reduction during calls and to enable stereo sound recording for videos.

Nokia has also updated the software around the camera to add new features like the Refocus Lens which lets you change the focus of your photo using a software algorithm after it’s taken similar to what Lytro cameras can do. They have also combined the Pro Camera and Smart Camera lenses into one new app called Nokia Camera containing all of the features which will be a part of the Lumia Black software update that will be rolled out in the course of the next few months to all Windows Phone 8 Lumia devices.
