FNB’s App to arrive on Windows Phone in ‘days not weeks’

The case for owning a Windows Phone-powered smartphone powered is getting stronger by the day.

Last week, Nokia boss, Stephen Elop (now operating under the title of Vice President of Microsoft’s Devices & Services business unit) confirmed that Instagram will be arriving on Windows Phone soon.

When contacted for comment, Strathmore confirmed that he’d seen the application working on Windows Phone 8 (it requires version 8 of Windows Phone to operate) and that it supports all of the key functionality FNB’s banking customers need. As for availability, Strathmore said he believes it will become available in the Windows Phone marketplace in ‘days not weeks’.

Strathmore furthermore said, although the application is 100% owned and developed by FNB, that Nokia and Microsoft have been working with the bank for about a year now on the project, providing it with access to infrastructure, developer support and answers to the technical questions its development team had during the development process.

“We’re obviously very excited for the app’s arrival,” he said, “as two of the most oft-cited examples of applications missing from the Windows Phone ecosystem in South Africa are Instagram and FNB’s app. It’s great news that these apps are both due for imminent arrival in the store.

FNB’s response to our questions are a little less enlightening.

Giuseppe Virgillito, Head of Banking App, FNB Mobile and Connect said:

“We have a rigorous development timeline for the FNB Banking App, which are all subject to the relevant App store approvals. As soon as we have anything new to share with regards to developments on the App, we’ll be sure to communicate this.”

The timer is ticking.
