Plan your dream trip and get it crowd-funded, with Trevolta

Who doesn’t want to plan the ultimate road trip across America, or a skiing expedition to Europe’s coolest slopes? Hermits, that’s who – and now there’s a site they can’t use.

Trevolta is a service that hopes to do for travel what Kickstarter did for home-made inventions. In its creators own words, posted on the site, “We enable travellers to submit their extraordinary ideas for expeditions in order to raise funds for it. Projects can be backed up by inspired people or sponsors looking for marketing opportunities and brand awareness.”

It’s also worth tempering your expectations. It’s not like you’ll get backing to go on a mega bender and pub crawl the most famous street in Scotland, nor are backers and benefactors going to be impressed with your totally rad plan to pose seductively next to all the famous national monuments across the world.

Instead, Trevolta’s page says that the kind of trips it hopes people will create for sponsorship are ones that are extraordinary and perhaps over-the-top; inspirational to others; or trips for educational and research purposes. So if you want to test the flow rate of tomato sauce at McMurdo Station in Antarctica, you could just be in luck.

Oh, and there’s also the possibility that whoever sponsors you could request that a task be performed during your travels – but those are optional. Although, you might obligated when an Arabic oil baron sponsors a lot of money and then asks you to go racing his supercar collection with him.

The service is still in beta, though, and signing up now will add your name to a long list of those hoping to do exactly what you’re hoping to. Those signing up are given affiliate links to get early access, and hopefully start planning their trip a little sooner.
