Map Monday: What’s your country popular for?

Did you know that South Africa leads the world when it comes to ostriches? And that our neighbouring countries are world leaders for the not-so-flattering wealth inequality (Namibia) and mortality (Lesotho), as well as diamonds (Botswana)?

Usually those stats would be hidden in boring presentations, or discovered after a long night’s reading on Wikipedia, but the creator of webcomic The Doghouse Diaries has done the hard work for you. He’s created a map that illustrates what each country is a world leader in. Now it’s easy to see that Madagascar really is the best place for lemurs, and the UAE is the world’s leading oil producer.

But you’ll also find curious facts, like the America being the home of being killed by lawnmowers, Brazil nuts actually coming from Bolivia, and Malawi is home to most of the world’s Malawisauruses.
