Nintendo’s 3DS is getting YouTube next month

Nintendo is rolling out an update for its 3DS handheld gaming console next month that will, among other things add a YouTube app, allowing fans to search and browse the popular vide0-sharing site from their 3DSes without having to switch to another device.

This was announced earlier tonight in the company’s “Nintendo Direct” video update.

Other cool features coming to the 3DS include the Wii U’s popular Miiverse, and a new, unified Nintendo Network ID that lets you combine funds in your 3DS account with those in your Wii U account.

When the update goes live next month, you’ll need to log in with the same username on both the Wii U and 3DS, after which you will be prompted to merge your accounts so that you can purchase digital goods for both platforms with your new, combined balance.

Nintendo also announced new features for current games, like an upgrade to the Wii U version of Animal Crossing Plaza that gives players 50 different Animal Crossing stamps to decorate their Miiverse posts with, and new Mission Mode stages for Pikmin 3.

There were many other game-related announcements and trailers shown in the Nintendo Direct update; if you’d like to see it in its totality, check out the video below.
