Random Hacks of Kindness returns to Jozi

Developers, come and use your powers for good. Random Hacks of Kindness (RHoK) is back in Johannesburg next weekend, for a two-day hackathon that will match talented software developers with real-world problems raised by NGOs and the public sector in a bid to crack them with code and put the world to rights by Sunday evening.

RHoK is a global movement which takes place in 30 counties at various times, and the South African chapter has been prolific in recent times. Back in June, UNISA sponsored an event in Pretoria and this time round it’s Thoughtworks’ turn to host the event at its offices on Melle Street. Organisers include House4Hack, Google Developers Group and SowerTech.

The hackathon kicks off at 9am on Saturday 30th November and finishes up at 4pm the following day. You can sign up to take part at the Eventbrite page over here. Directions to the venue are also provided on the same page.

The byline for RHoK is ‘Hacking for Humanity’, and subjects that will be covered include education, health, water and sanitation, citizen media, employment and more. The structure is usually that problems are raised, and groups form around subject areas to come up with ideas to fix them.

See you there.
