No Warcraft movie until 2016

When the release date for the Warcraft movie was announced at Bizzcon a few weeks back, we were rather excited as it landed on the exact same day as the release of the next Star Wars movie: December 18, 2015. Talk around our offices was along the lines of which one to see first, and whether a day of leave would be needed to enjoy both to their fullest.

Today we learned that taking leave to see both won’t be necessary. Online movie site Variety has reported that Legendary Pictures and Universal Studios have pushed it back to March 11, 2016, to “get out of the way of the behemoth that is expected to be one of 2015′s biggest releases.”

Not much is known about the movie’s plot at this point, other than being set in a time before any of the Warcraft games and featuring some of the first-ever contact between humans and Orcs. Duncan Jones of Source Code fame is directing, and the action will be made up of a combination of live-action, makeup effects and CGI, similar to 2011’s excellent TinTin movie that was directed by Steven Spielberg.

Are you a bit sad that you’ll have to wait an extra three months to see a movie based on Blizzard’s humungous franchise, or do you think the studio did the right thing by letting Star Wars have the limelight all on its own? Let us know in the comments.
