Forget serious journalism or your fancy-schmancy HTML5 designs, when it comes to winning awards for online achievements nothing can beat a badger with an internet connection. We know this because at last night’s prestigious Bookmarks awards, organised by the Digital Media & Marketing Association (DMMA) the tweeting badger of Johannesburg Zoo – which we wrote about back here – cleaned up, winning four awards including two of the headline Gold Pixels.
The firm behind the Arduino-based set-up that allows BG the honey badger to post regular updates on social media, Hellocomputer, beat competition from EyeWitness News, The Mail & Guardian, Daily Maverick and Quirk to take home the Golden Pixels for:
- Social, Community and PR – Social Media Properties
- Branded Content
- Best Creative
- Best User Experience Designer
Just wait, BG, next year we’ll be entering for the first time, then you won’t stand a chance. Obviously some human-based marketing campaigns and serious journalists also won awards, but frankly, in the face of a tweeting badger, who cares?
Mind you, if we’re up against gems such as:

And
Zoo Trot today. Why do you humans dress so funny? I just run in the buff.

Maybe next year will be a clean sweep too.
